FUEL CRISIS

1) Between Jan and June 18 Zim has imported above $885m of Diesel and Petrol. This accounts for 57% of the Total earnings from out Top 3 Exports(Gold, Tobacco,Nickel). Because we sell at 1:1 this has led us to avail the cheapest fuel in the COMESA area!
2) On its part the RBZ needs to avail more information to the public on the weekly forex allocations towards fuel procurement. It is in the best interests of the public to know how much has been allocated, and to who!
3) On the second level NOIC and ZERA wld need to complement the RBZ's efforts by availing details of actual fuel delivered to each fuel dealer in a week. This allows transparency as this can be compared against RBZ's weekly allocations. Zimra can weigh in on fuel acquittals done!
Question of the day:

Does it make sense for the public to get subsidized fuel when hospitals and pharmacies have no medicines? What is better sacrificing the comfort of our cars(coz we have no fuel) than to have empty pharmacies?

1) It would help for people to relate the actual chronology of the permanent fall of the ZimDollar in late 2008, early 2009. With the $100 Trillion Note coming in, Retailers started to benchmark prices at rates higher than the going USD/ZWD rate
2) The same is being witnessed in today's environment as retailers seem to be pegging Bond ¢ RTGS prices higher than the generally agreed Alternative Market rate. This is wisely designed to force people to Buy in USD. The brave retailers are pegging prices exclusively in USD.
3)The scenario in 2) in likely to lead us to one thing:

Re-Dollarisation!

The market in Zimbabwe has proved to wield more power and moves faster than what the law or official policy dictates. Before we know it, we will be fully dollarised, again!

CASH CRISIS (contd)

1) Between 2009 to 2012 the BOP position was worsening with the country importing more than it was exporting. USD Cash and Nostro was being spend in the process and the Cash Assets/Deposits ratio continued to worsen. @xolanee02
2) However here is our Question to every Zimbabwean:

Why is it that from 2014 to date the BOP position has been improving and yet there is no improvement in access to USD Cash or Nostro? Where are we putting the proceeds from Exports? @Busisa74
3) If the information in the above figure be True, it leads us to conclude that Zim has enough supply of foreign currency to at least meet its basic liquidity requirements. However what is lacking is CONFIDENCE or the ALLOCATION of forex is not efficient! @BrezhMalaba
