THREAD: Republicans are sore losers and cheaters. Their key strategy consists of undermining democracy to stay in power.

Case in point: what's happening in Wisconsin & Michigan during their shady lame duck sessions. 1/

Democrats swept statewide offices in both MI & WI but fell short of taking over their state legislatures due to gerrymandering.

In their final days of trifecta control of both states, the GOP is scheming for a power grab to change the rules and undermine democracy. 2/

In Wisconsin, the GOP is trying to strip power from the governor, attorney general, and secretary of state - all offices that will be occupied with Democrats in January. 3/

Wisconsin Republicans are also trying to change the date of the presidential primary because it currently overlaps with court justice elections. They fear the high primary turnout will undermine their chances - because when more people turn out, it usually benefits Democrats. 4/

Republican legislators want to move around long established election dates and add an additional statewide election that will cost taxpayers millions of dollars just to give their hand-picked conservative justice a better chance at winning a Supreme Court election. 5/

This effort to maintain control of the state's courts is the WI GOP's last ditch effort to protect their gerrymander, which is horrendous by the way. This election, Democrats won 53% of the popular vote in Wisconsin but will only control 36% of the state legislative seats. 6/

If all of that wasn't bad enough, the Wisconsin GOP is also working on cutting early voting hours because voter suppression is a cornerstone of the GOP playbook. They know that their popularity is dwindling and their only hope of holding power is to prevent people from voting. 7/

Meanwhile, in Michigan, the GOP-controlled legislature is also trying to strip powers away from the incoming Attorney General and Secretary of State and pass some shady campaign finance bills to shield political groups from disclosing their funders. 8/

The Michigan legislature is also in the process of repealing two bills for paid sick-leave and tipped wage increases that they themselves passed earlier in the year in order to avoid those issues going to the ballot. 9/

This blatant power grab is sad and despicable. Our country is built on a fair and functioning democracy and the Republican party's e entire strategy is to undermine it order to stay in power.

Hey WI/MI GOP - The people have spoken. Get over yourselves and get to work. 10/10
