The Epstein case's message is that if you are rich enough (or in the case of some of his pals--rich and powerful enough) you can get away with anything--including serial sexual abuse of young girls, sex trafficking and worse. It is one of those cases that defines who we are.
If it is allowed to stand, if he and his buddies (including very prominent men from both sides of the aisle) are allowed to get away with this, if those who allowed it to be covered up (like the Labor Sec.) are allowed to have enabled them, we are indeed the nation...
in which there are two distinct system of law, one for the rich and one for everyone else. While that's not news, when egregious cases like this one...& the serial abuses and crimes of a man like Donald Trump,are allowed to proceed as they have, the idea of the US is diminished.
Ensuring justice is done with Epstein, with his co-defendants, with his complicit prosecutors and with people like Trump is as great a test of our system as any election that has ever been held. Kudos to the @MiamiHerald for bringing it back to our collective attention.
Now, it is up to principled prosecutors, other attorneys who will stand up for the women in question, political leaders with courage, journalists with resources and others to commit themselves to tirelessly pursuing a just outcome here until it is done.
If they fail, it is not merely a failure of our duty to the victims of Epstein, but is an inexorable step toward our failure as a society.
