I can think of few instances when a political leader has been so pitch perfect in tone and substance than @NancyPelosi over the last few months. That is good, as she ascends for a second time to the Speakership, she is the most important person in America right now.
Her career is a remarkable story of achievement--by far the greatest success story of an American woman in our political history. She is surrounded by a great team that is going to change the nature of how our government works almost instantly.
That does not guarantee success on all fronts..or even many fronts. But we have been without oversight of the president for two years as he has presided over the wholesale corruption of his office, of service to our enemies and of compiling and compounding threats to the country.
For that reason, even if all that is done is to constrain him and his cronies (including those in the U.S. Senate) that is progress. But perhaps some crimes will be revealed and justice will be served. Perhaps a new agenda can be outlined.
A vision of what might be can be described for American voters who need to address core issues like economic anxiety, inequality, the retirement crisis, health care, protecting our environment, restoring U.S. leadership. That seems to be what the Speaker wants.
She now leads the party and frankly, that is a very good thing for the country. We must resist complacency. But we should not fail to recognize or appreciate the turning point at which we have arrived.
