The Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes banned members from attending the Charlottesville rally. Now the group has named Enrique Tarrio as chairman. Here’s Tarrio, in Charlottesville.
Enrique Tarrio was the leader of the Proud Boys Miami chapter. In an interview following the rally in Charlottesville, Tarrio said: “After I saw the tiki torch thing, I was completely against it.” It didn’t stop him from attending Unite the Right the very next day.
In the photo below from the deadly Charlottesville rally, Tarrio is wearing the patch of the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights (FOAK), the now defunct paramilitary wing of the Proud Boys.
Tarrio was also photographed at an August 4, 2018 rally in Portland, OR with other members of The Proud Boys.
Tarrio and members were displaying the “OK” symbol, a trolling gesture that has become synonymous with the racist alt-right.

The photo also shows members of the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer wearing t-shirts that praise Augusto Pinochet, the brutal Chilean dictator. The shirts were made by a former white nationalist clothing company.
Alongside Tarrio in the photo from Portland were two others who attended the Unite the Right: in Charlottesville Christopher Ritchie (center) and Shane Reeves (left). Both were also members of violent Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights (FOAK). splcenter.org/fighting-hate/…
While technically defunct, FOAK saw headlines recently when former member Irvin Antillon was arrested for his alleged involvement in a brawl that took place outside a Gavin McInnes event at Metropolitan Republican Club.

Antillon was another former Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights member who attended the Unite the Right who has remained active in this network.

Haley Adams is also a part of the female division of the nativist, misogynist men's group known as the "Proud Boys", which Vice Media co-founder Gavin McInnes established. The Proud Boys hate Muslims, non-white immigrants, trans people, and "Western" women who don't want kids.
The FBI now lists the Proud Boys as a hate group. The Proud Boys often engage in street violence and collaborate with violent white supremacists, such as Agustus Sol Invictus who headlined the deadly Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville.

1) Yesterday I ended discussion with an interlocutor who became abusive (life is too short to converse with shitheads) after I told him that, in my view, libertarians often are some of the worst authoritarians. So let me explain. Long thread follows.
2) I’ll agree that the notion of libertarian authoritarianism seems counterintuitive. After all, it’s a worldview predicated on enshrining individual liberty as the highest possible social and political value. But it nonetheless is proving a massive gateway to authoritarianism.
3) Perhaps the single greatest indicator of this is the way libertarians have lined up in support of Donald Trump, who is the most authoritarian personality in the history of the American presidency, resembling nothing so much as a Banana Republic dictator in his ruling style.
