If there was indeed such a beautiful and grand temple at the site, wouldn't it be mentioned at least once in the many chronicles of greeks about India, of Chinese travelers such as Fa Hien and Huen Tsang?

You wonder how several major Rajput kings such as Jai Singh, Man Singh, Amar Singh will remain silent over such a supposedly major shrine being converted to a tomb.

Now Imagine this.

Say, 50 years from now, a scholar associated with BJP/RSS suddenly publishes a book called "Jai Singh Doha Shatak" which contains verses describing the Tejo Mahalya. Another memoir of some Mughal suddenly appears, published by RSS folks, describing how they destroyed it.

Then, 80 years from now, a priest claims that Lord Shiva appeared in his dreams, & told him about a Shivling appearing inside Taj Mahal the next morning. When he went to Taj Mahal the next morning, an exactly similar Shivling was already installed there. 5/n

This is seen as a divine intervention, and the local DM locks the Taj Mahal compound.

(It will later emerge that this priest had installed the Shivling himself mischievously, in collusion with the same DM, who will join RSS/BJP a few years later) 6/n

Now, a court case for title ownership of Taj Mahal is filed in an Agra court, it remains shut for nearly 40 years, because of it.

Then 120 years from now, a local court orders opening of the Taj Mahal, with a priest allowed to perform Shiv Puja at the site. 7/n

A BJP leader starts a Rath Yatra campaign, with slogan, "Shiv Mandir Waheen banayeenge", his campaign polarises people, increases BJP votes, & causes numerous riots. 8/n

VHP starts performing Kar Seva at the site, in one such event, it brings down the Taj Mahal.

All this looks silly, doesn't it?

Well, this is not very different from what has gone on in Ayodhya.
