the jury will begin deliberating on the verdict today. fields faces ten charges - one count of first degree murder, five counts of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of malicious wounding, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

even if the jury enters that jury room already certain and unanimous, it's a lot of paperwork. if they go through the proper motions, read the jury instructions together, and deliberate on the specific elements of each count individually, it will still take several hours.

today will be mostly waiting. i won’t be the first one to bring you the verdict - you’ll likely get that from a mainstream news source almost immediately. but i’m looking forward to judge moore’s statements after the verdict is read. i’ll update you when i can.

james alex fields, jr was found guilty on all ten charges as indicted. first degree murder of heather heyer. 5 counts of aggravated malicious wounding. 3 counts of malicious wounding. and one count of felony hit & run.

the penalty phase will begin monday. the same jury will hear victim impact statements and the defense’s mitigation witnesses. they’ll then deliberate again on sentencing recommendations. he faces up to a life sentence on six of the counts.
