Delegation from the South East has just arrived for a Meeting with the President, on the in-progress Enyimba City in Aba, Abia State. Part of the FG’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Agenda, in partnership with Abia State Govt and Private Investors.
The SE delegation this afternoon was led by Gov Ikpeazu of Abia State. He told the President: “Thank you for your support... This is happening as a result of your vision that States are allowed to develop at their own pace and contribute to the diversification of Nigeria.”
Gov Ikpeazu:
- Enyimba Economic City (EEC) is 9,800 hectares in 3 LGAs in Abia South Senatorial District
- Located between Aba and PH (therefore sits at confluence of SS and SE)
- 30 minutes from Onne & Abonnema Ports
- To PMB: “This is a gesture we will not forget in a hurry.”

What happened today at the Presidential Villa was the signing of Agreements between the 3 primary partners on the Enyimba Economic City Project:
- Private Sector Developers (Enyimba City Development Co Ltd)
- The Federal Government @AsoRock
- Abia State Government
- Private Sector Developers (Enyimba City Development Co Ltd)

The Federal Government’s stake/involvement in the Special Economic Zones being developed is represented by a new company called the Nigeria Special Economic Zones Development Co.
The NSEZDCo is owned 25% by the Government of Nigeria and 75% by Development Finance Institutions.

The host communities of the Enyimba City were also represented at the Meeting today. Their Rep thanked the President for his “unequivocal support.” Also noted that all the communities involved very willingly contributed their land and are eager for the success of the project.
And of course everyone had special thanks for Minister of @TradeInvestNG, @OkeyEnelamah, for his efforts on the project. The Buhari Administration’s SEZs Vision is being implemented by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
I’m told that the Enyimba City will host light, medium and heavy manufacturing. Will include a number of Economic Townships, sections for Entertainment & Leisure, and Medical Tourism, as well as Residential Areas. Groundbreaking should happen early 2019.
