Imagine finding a cache of water in the desert and pouring it out.

It’s the sort of impossibly cruel thing you might dream about doing in a nightmare and feel sick and wrong for a week after.

Apparently SOP on the border.

It’s the sort of thing that you can expect to see, inevitably, in a culture that believes life must be earned.
Water cached in the desert is there for people who are depending on it for life

Think of getting there and finding it gone, and knowing you’ll all die

Think of the person who did it to them, because he thought it would be good for these people to die
You can think border security so important that it’s right and good to dump that water and kill those people

The price for thinking that is being the kind of person who thinks such things

A soul with an abcess
This is the conclusion of the movement that has captured our national spirit: some people matter, and other people don’t, and for those who don’t it would be good if they suffer, but it would be better if they die.
We’ve seem nations draw such conclusions before.

Those involved learn to forgive themselves.
“Just doing your job” carries no moral weight when your job involves fathomless cruelty

see I can point that out AND write my congresspersons
You want easy concepts, Dave?

Seeking asylum is legal.

Illegal border crossing is a misdemeanor and the penalty isn’t dying in the desert.

Deliberately orchestrating death in the desert is a crime against humanity.

Judgements and sentences are not the role of border cops.
The question about “law and order” we must always ask:

What order is the law designed to protect?
We need to understand, people arguing with this thread don’t disagree with my assessment of their worldview: that most people don’t matter, and that it’s good if such people die.

That a law protecting such an order is moral.

It’s just that they think it’s good.
They think it’s very good.
It’s not that they care about law.

They don’t.

They don’t care that seeking asylum is legal

It’s that they care about laws that enforce a cruel and selfish order.
Cruel...
... and selfish...
... order.
“Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous for the common man, the functionaries ready to believe interact without asking questions.”

-Primo Levi
I am broadcasting people who agree with me, that our society’s belief is that life must be earned, and those who have not earned it deserve to suffer and die.

The only point of difference is that I think it is evil, and they think it’s good.
They want people to die. They think it’s very good.

They think death is an apt penalty for the misdemeanor of illegal entry.

They consider asylum-seekers a subhuman invasion.

They’re telling me.

I’m telling everyone I can.
They are what they are.

The question is, what do the rest of us want to be?
Do we want to be a people who thinks orchestrating the terrible death of our fellow human beings is good, while saving our sense of outrage for those who would dare criticize our mountainish inhumanity?
I dare hope we can point to something finer than that.

Good morning.
In the nighttime of awareness, we thought there were things more important than the lives of other humans.

Now, more and more, there are those who understand differently, who know that human beings are art, and the only barbarians are those who would destroy art.

good morning
Law is important and good, when the laws are good.

Order is important and good, when that order is just.

Borders can be good. Borders can be important.

But not more important than human beings. We must insist on that.

good morning
Our country does not seem divided on what our values are. We seem divided only on whether those values are good or bad. We seem divided only on whether or not we should be better.

We’ve deliberately strategically orchestrated death in the desert.

We can do better.

good morning
Again, I must commend @Radiolab and their border trilogy detailing how our immigration policy was strategically modified to deliberately result in mass death.

A must-hear. wnycstudios.org/story/border-t…
