The magic numbers are 290 and 67 to override a veto. Overrides used to be far more common.

What do we mean when we say "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"? There IS NOT is single answer to this. The language opens as many questions as it answers. Law professors, judges, Members of Congress all debate but none can answer.
You can see the wrinkles of this debate all around: We regulate pornography on some kinds of television; we have taken steps to control ISIS's radical messaging; we apply employment law and tax burdens on the press.

No other country has a Constitution such as ours, stating specifically that all rights of the People are derived not from Government, but are inalienable, meaning that government cannot restrict or remove those rights.
Those Rights are codified in the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, the first of which lays the foundation for all of the others that follow, with the second amendment being in place to protect the first, and therefore, all others.
