/ the overwhelming volume of FBI redactions obviously frustrate. It's mildly interesting to spend a few minutes parsing exactly what was redacted from Flynn 302 and speculate why FBI didn't want you to see it. First a heading was redacted. What was it? What was FBI hiding?
/ Redactions at beginning of each paragraph. These redactions (see Combetta 302 below for comparison) are classification codes. Why did FBI redact them for Flynn, but not Combetta?
/ in footer at bottom of first page, FBI redacted file number, Pientka name. OK. Also redacted a block of text in center of page - no ideas on this.
/ at top of page 2, FBI redacted classification code in Feb 302 (but not in July 302). A header just above Continuation of FD-302 redacted in both. Why?
/ footer on page 2 redacted. (Also in Strzok July 302). This footer shows classification code. See Combetta footer (attached) for comparison.
/ not going to parse substantive redactions, but this paragraph caught my eye. Flynn told FBI that he didn't know if Putin and Trump would get along, but it was his "job to figure out paths to work with Russia to fight terrorism". Intel resistance sabotaged that initiative.
/ Flynn appears to have volunteered a narrative summary of his calls with Kislyak. In respect to Dec 29 call in controversy, he initially told them about discussions about a "set up" and an "observer". These statements appear to have been true, though not exhaustive.
/ after the narrative summary, agents asked Flynn if he had any other "text, email or meetings" with Russians. Flynn mentioned a closed door meeting after election. Was Flynn given advance notice of this question so he could refresh his recollection? If not, why not?
/ agents then reminded Flynn of call to Kislyak on Dec 22. Flynn: "good reminder". Flynn explained that they had called a "litany" of countries on vote, likening it to a "battle drill". None of the direct statements appears to be a "lie"
/ according to Indictment, Kushner called Flynn on Dec 22, requesting him "to influence governments to delay vote or defeat [Egyptian] resolution" on Israeli settlements. It says tht Flynn informed Kislyak of new admin opposition, asked him to delay/defeat vote. Russia refused
/ Agents asked Flynn if he had commented to Kislyak about "voting in a certain manner" or "slowing down vote" and report that Flynn answered "No". On this point, seems clear that Flynn lied. On other hand, Flynn's calls don't seem like any of FBI's business. What was predicate?
/ Indictment: Kislyak called Flynn on Dec 28 after Obama announcement. Flynn called Kushner who told him that Transition Team did not want situation to escalate. Flynn called Kislyak, asked that he not escalate and only respond to "sanctions" in "reciprocal manner".
/ 302: Flynn apparently told agents that he wasn't "aware of then upcoming actions" as he was in DR without television news and his "government blackberry wasn't working". Implausible given Flynn communications with Kushner.
/ in the 302, Strzok used words "escalate", "reciprocal" which later appear in Indictment. These ought to have reminded Flynn who implausibly said "I don't remember." Then truthfully said "It wasn't 'Don't do anything'". Flynn objected that Obama admin hadn't informed new admin
