Former Blackwater security guard Nicholas Slatten was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing Ahmed Haithem Ahmed Al Rubia'y, an unarmed Iraqi civilian, at Nisur Square in 2007.
Nicholas Slatten was the first of seven Blackwater guards to open fire in the massacre at Nisur Square that left 14 Iraqi civilians dead, prosecutors say.

His charges call for a mandatory life sentence.
Three other Blackwater guards were found guilty of manslaughter and other charges in 2014. They remain in custody after an appeals court ordered for them to be re-sentenced.
Blackwater was a private military company founded by Erik Prince, the brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. He rebranded his company and sold it in 2010.

He now oversees a military training school in Beijing, and recently advocated to privatize the war in Afghanistan.
