Retail drones with remote telemetry can’t fly near airports, they are locked out in software. DJI drones can’t get within 2.5km of #GatwickAirport , stop using photos of their drones for #GatwickDrones . This prolonged attack isn’t from a Christmas 🎁 , Hours of many #drones
2/ airports are very sensitive to this, you don’t need to hover over a runway for 15 hours, a flyby and hover for a few min twice an hour would be enough for them to cancel flights, You don’t risk lives. #BadGuys either need to recharge the drones or launch fresh and run auto fly
3/ if they custom built drones for this it’s possible to have 60min flight time at ~30kph but probably less. That means you could launch the #GatwickDrone attack from somewhere in this circle below. if you built 48 drones (£57k) you could sustain for 24h
More likely it’s somthing with <25min flight time so your looking at a launch spot inside the blue, that’s for a one way trip, 5 min hover, and fly off in different direction and crash in countryside. Straight line good way to be caught.
/5 you don’t need a fixed base. drive the blue circle and launch every 30min. Then pickup the drones at landing spots or have them self destruct on landing. Scary is Fire season in Los Angeles with a drone terrorist. But it’s usually asshole in a car with a torch. Cheaper & easy
/6 seems like my scenario is over engineered. Total of 3 drones used in #GatwickDrone attack so far. 2 at the start which caused a 6 hour hold. Then right as they started flights again 1 more drone came and hovered at runway. Causing 6+ hours. 6 hours is your scale per done
/7 it’s 15 hours later and from what I see on #GatwickDrones and #GatwickAirport looks like it’s still going. Looks like it’s at 50 sightings over 24 hours. Or right at 2 drones an hour. Huh, looks like my estimates of 48 drones per 24h are pretty close.
/8 that also means they are probably between my blue and red circles. And I would bet they are on the move. Given the number of drones needed you would need at least a small van or a box truck. Maybe look for a truck that stops every 30min @Gatwick_Airport @GatwickPolice
/9 the A24 and A22 A264 and M25 make kind of a box around the airport in the range. If you had truck with a hole in the roof or even a sunroof you could stick a drone on the roof and hit launch as soon as it gets GPS lock. Then pull back on the road and go to your next launch
/10 also @Gatwick_Airport @GatwickPolice @GatwickFire look for reports of smoke or small fires in the red circle, it could easily be one of the 50 drones landing and self destructing. Would be trivial to have a small burn charge that triggers when the thing his the ground or time
/11 the #Terrorists committing #GatwickDrone attack are spending ~£60k per 24h on hardware alone. Plus I would guess a box truck and at least 2 people. It’s a lot of work for a #LoneWolf this feels more organized or even state action.
/12 like that time last year when the Russian army used a drone with a ZMG-1 thermite grenade to blow up $1billion with of ammo belonging to the Ukraine. The video of it is insane: popularmechanics.com/military/weapo…
/13 looks like there is enough of a lull that @Gatwick_Airport is going to try and resume flight. How much you want to be another drone just happens to show up as soon as aircraft do.
/14 to everyone saying Jammers: these are probably running planned flights, nothing to jam. To those saying: shoot them, see earlier. Nets & falcons: sure but then they send another drone. Removes one but not the issue of the attack. This ends 1 of 2 ways... #GatwickDrones
The fine @GatwickPolice catch the bastards or they stop launching drones. That’s it. Welcome to the #terminator future. Isn’t it grand. Kind of ironic since I’m the guy who made the #TerminatorVR game @VRSpaces
/16 you could I guess setup the drones around the red circle with timers on when to launch and do that a day in advance (battery life). Also #GatwickAirport is an interesting choice. I have thoughts on why there...
/17 the people doing this probably planned to escape. as an island the UK is a great choice. Just have a boat ready in Brighton, Newhaven, or Ferring. Who would notice a few blokes parking a box truck and getting on a boat for an afternoon cruise. Just south of #gatwick_airport
