I ran a game for my kids last night. We played a quick Christmas-themed game where the Ice Goblins had abducted Santa in order to ruin Christmas and steal joy from the world.

...at least that was my original story.
You see, my 7yo added that they'd also captured Mrs. Clause too and they were putting them in machines to send them to different universes... WHICH IS SO RAD. (Thank you #IntoTheSpiderVerse)
So with the holiday theme in mind, my 4yo was Rudolph...who could also turn into the Hulk and a tornado for some reason. My 2yo was Frosty the Wizard Snowman (okay, so I helped him a bit) and my 7yo picked Penny, an elf "fire gymnast" which is essentially a ninja with fire magic.
So they were recruited by the elves of the North Pole to save Santa and Mrs. Claus from the Ice Goblin king. They took Santa's sleigh and flew to the Ice Goblin castle which was billowing green smoke. They landed behind some ice bushes. Nice and sneaky. The perfect set up.
Rudolph turned into the Hulk and charged the 3 goblin guards. She missed both of them somehow, but Penny shot a fire arrow and took one out. Frosty shot an ice crystal at another and got it. Hulk Rudolph smashed the last one.
They inspected the door and found that there was a keypad (more like, I was told there was a keypad and I was totally okay with this development). Penny shot an arrow into the keypad and the doors opened, surprising the 4 goblins inside.
(At this point, because my 4yo and 2yo are 4 and 2, Rudolph and Frosty disappeared from the game for a bit and they were replaced by Paul the Lumberjack played by me.)
Penny charged into the room and kicks one goblin with a fire kick SO HARD that the goblin flew into another goblin incinerating both of them. Paul made short work of another and Penny sunk a fire arrow into another one.
There were two staircases. We rolled to see if we knew the right way to go and it turned out, we knew they were in the basement because ice goblins like the dark and cold. They ran down into the basement where...my 7yo filled in the scene...
Santa and Mrs. Claus were being loaded into two separate machines where they were going to be sent into different dimensions, and there were huge batteries that made the machine work. Penny quickly shot off two fire arrows and exploded the batteries, stopping the machines.
This angered the royal ice goblin guards, AND the huge ice goblin king. But with a really good roll, Penny knew there were more batteries in another room and she ran off to deal with them while Paul held off the goblins and Goblin king.
Paul did fairly well because I didn't balance the game well (a little loose with rule sets on this game) and took out all the goblins, but was getting wailed on pretty good by the goblin king.
JUST THEN... Rudolph showed back up and turned into a tornado, sucking up the Goblin King and throwing him against a wall. Frosty shot him with an magic snowball and finished the job. The Ice Goblin King turned to snow and Santa and Mrs. Claus were saved.
We had a lot of fun and my kids made a lot more of the story up than I thought they would. A great time had by all.

And for you nerds wondering what I did...let's just say I'll have to tweak it a bit to add some sort of challenge. lol
The rule set was an amalgam of D&D 5e and Fate and we used fudge dice and it was wild. (Sort of took stuff from this and added Fate: theunderfold.com/2018/08/14/sim… )

I made up the rules trying to merge the two ideas together on the fly and it was fun, but they were SO overpowered. Ha!
