In short, it is not transnational, it has no border operations, it has 10,000 members (same as it did a decade ago--which is miniscule for a gang in the US), and most all of its victims are immigrants or children of immigrants (Trump lied about them killing a police officer).
There are real horrors here, and grotesque violence. The question is why white Republicans suddenly care now. Well, because they've been told to, and because a violent Latino gang is a useful cudgel for talking "tough" about the border.

BREAKING - Work Stoppage at Largest Maximum Security Prison in the U.S.

C-Block prisoners at Louisiana State Penitentiary launched a non-violent work stoppage to demand an end to prison slavery. Prison administrators transported prisoners refusing to work to an unknown location
In a separate report, a fight broke out today at Angola prison after the assistant warden called an "inmate a nigger" and "hit two inmate with a wooden stick."
A prisoner at Angola said, “they just pulled up with buses, with lots of orange jump suits" in response to the work stoppage. #August21

One of the most important things I ever learned about injustice was the difference between prejudice, discrimination, and oppression.

A Sunday thread.
Prejudice is ideas you hold about a people group. Positive or negative, you hold them based on people being different than you. These are natural, normal, and able to be personally dismantled.
Discrimination is when you ACT on prejudice. Your thoughts about a people group lead you to treat an individual in that group a certain way.

Again, this isn’t automatically negative. Maybe you treat them better or worse based on group membership.

Okay, so: I have three purebred, with papers, Maine Coon cats. Their names are Alice, Thomas, and Elsie. They're pretty awesome. Best cats I've ever had. I'm not shy about sharing that fact.
I talk about my cats a LOT, because they are among the most important things in my life. I talk about the cute things they do, how smart they are, how good they are for my mental health.
This sometimes leads to people saying "oh, I want a Maine Coon now!", which is awesome, they're a great, beautiful breed, and make wonderful companion animals. If you want a Maine Coon, you want a Maine Coon. No other type of cat is the same.

Let's dive in...
I want to make a few things clear, though.

First, I don't think alcohol is inherently, irredeemably bad. That said, I have been raised in several alcohol-happy nations (France, Belgium, Australia) so I recognise I have bias, here.
Secondly - and I'm sure this is clear from what I said in the former - I enjoy having some drinks to varying degrees in a variety of settings (anything from professional networking to friendly gatherings).
I think it's a fine thing that I like to do.
