Today is Jayanti of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Param Vir Chakra awardee, who gave up his life for the nation during the 1971 War on Dec 3 . One of Jharkhand's most famous heroes along with Birsa Munda, he actually saved Agartala from Pakistan.
While Albert Ekka, and his bravery during the '71 war is well known, what many do not know is that he was the Man who saved Agartala. It was thanks to him, that Agartala was not taken over by Pakistan, and still remained a part of India.
Albert Ekka was born in a Christian Oraon family on Dec 27, 1942 in a small tribal hamlet, in Jharkhand's Gumla district. Growing up in the jungles of Jharkhand, he had a natural flair for sports, and was pretty adept with the bow and arrow.

The likes of Peter Obi are important to the polity - they come in from outside and by sincerity of heart and oneness of purpose, they show others that things don’t have to be complex for them to work.

But not all professionals in politics are like that, Raji Fashola for example.
Fashola as Lagos State Governor used to make everything look complex so much that it became a governance style unique to him and now elevated to the national level by his party:

First disrupt everything so that people can appreciate you when you complete the project.
Under Fashola in Lagos, they could be fixing the third street from yours but they would park the heavy vehicles and block access to your own street (with a board announcing an apology) but all just to let you know that his Govt was working.

Yaba had a full year of disruption.

Wishing a Happy 85th birthday to the Metro Man E.Sreedharan, the man behind two of the greatest engineering projects in modern India- Konkan Railway and Delhi Metro, pulled off under the most challenging circumstances.
While Sreedharan is widely acclaimed for the Delhi Metro, for me the Konkan Railway was a far bigger achievement. One of the most challenging project, considering the terrain involved, to me wud be Sreedharan's greatest achievement.

And to think that Sreedharan was actually bought out of retirement for Konkan Railway, his tenure had come to an end in June 1990. It was the then Railway Minister George Fernandes who appointed him as CMD of Konkan Railways, and the rest as they say is history.
