Workers' congresses and workplace democracy in China.
For many, "China is socialist" is still a very controversial position to take. One reason for this is a general misunderstanding of how the Chinese economy actually operates, from top-level planning down to enterprise management.

OMG I just had a thought. (I know, occasionally it still happens).

In Japan, workers get seniority-based raises. In America they often don't.

So HOUSE PRICE APPRECIATION became the vehicle by which Americans turned age into dignity.
People want to feel that they accomplish something as they age.

Seeing young people richer than you is grating for many (most?) people.

If salaries don't advance as you get older, how can the dignity of age be preserved?

America's answer: Housing prices.
In Japan, houses DEPRECIATE over time, like a car. nri.com/global/opinion…

Why do people tolerate this? Because at the same time, they or their spouses are getting seniority-based raises.

How should journalists report on the Republican tax plan? You might think this was obvious: describe the bill as written. But some are saying that this is unfair, because the middle-class tax increases in the legislation won't really happen 1/
As a reminder, the way the bill works is this: tax increases on middle and lower incomes to pay for corporate tax cuts, but a bunch of temporary measures that offset the middle-class hikes for the first few years, then expire 2/
The expiration dates are there for a reason: to keep the deficit impact of the bill in its first decade down, and make it zero in the second decade to bypass the filibuster. So as written, the long run impact is captured by the 2027 effects 3/
