All I want for 2019 is... (warning, some real personal sharing coming up)👇🏻
In 2019 I want to find my ikigai. My purpose. My superpower. This has always been hard for me as I’m sort of a jack of all trades. Pretty good at many things, but not a deep expert in one area.
As I get older I wrestle with this more often. In your 20s I think it’s fine to experiment with your career, build stuff, fail fast etc. but in your 30s ideally you should be closer to finding that sweet intersection of what you’re good at and what generates income.
Which makes this year of 12 startups in 12 months a constant mental challenge. While it feels good to launch and create some momentum, I’m also constantly wondering whether I’m creating even more inconsistency in my life. Or if it is ultimately all moving me towards my ikigai.
I’m so thankful to everyone encouraging me and thinking what I do is cool. But there’s a real sense of imposter syndrome - behind each of these launches is a mad (and very uncool) scramble to the finish line and a debilitating fear that what I launch will fail horribly.
If you’re a maker and you feel this sense of imposter syndrome, just remember - you have the ability to create stuff from scratch, that’s already a *huge* advantage. It might take a few swings and misses but many people don’t even get the chance to bat.
(Messed up threading) Thread continue here:
Just sharing some behind the scenes thoughts. I’m sure some of you wrestle with this stuff too - you are not alone!
