Here’s @AOC talking up Modern Monetary Theory as an answer to how the government can fund a progressive agenda. She’s right.
Taxing the super rich at 70 or 80 percent is good in itself, because those people have too much money and are screwing up the world with it. But you don't need it to fund an agenda.

Morning: breakfast PAC fundraiser
Mid-morning: Call time (dialing rich people for $)
Mid-day: Office check in, lobbyist meetings
Afternoon: Call time, meetings with lobbyists
Evening: PAC fundraiser

In between are votes and hearings. The former you go to, the latter you skip.

So, this is actually a really important progressive step, with some room for ratfucking and some caveats. In the House, "money committee" assignments are considered desirable because, wait for it, sitting on them helps you raise money. What this says is /1
...that Dems are not going to give every damn "money committee" seat to a New Dem or a Blue Dog to help them raise money for reelection. That's how they did it in '07 and '09 and it left the key committees stacked with reactionaries who watered down legislation and still lost/2

Playing about with the Scottish Growth Comission using the correct language.
Scotland’s households, business and exporters to Scotland surplus would be 7.1% of GDP by 2021-22. This would have to come down because we have no idea what we are doing. We don't know why since inflation is quite low showing that this surplus is not causing that many problems.
Through effeciency savings the actual inherited households, business and exporters to Scotland surplus would be, 5.9% of GDP. So with a stroke of a pen we've destroyed 1.2% of GDP of everybody's savings not even giving them the chance to spend them into the economy.

THREAD: Well, yesterday's thread went unexpectedly viral. Massive thanks to all those who shared it - and for such a positive response. I want to deal with some of the questions it prompted here. Hopefully this won't prove as long as yesterday's - but y'know, famous last words...
1) Negative responses more or less broke down into three categories: a) Ad hominem attacks (folks - what do you think you achieve with that? Nothing) b) Those who wanted answers to things the thread already answered c) Questions on things it didn't fully answer. Fair enough.
2) These questions revolved around both Brexit and Corbyn himself. So that's what this thread will focus on. To begin with, Brexit.

In other words, it was my understanding that MMT was explicitly non-political. That people can take the *knowledge* of MMT and use it to implement policies that are progressive, neoliberal, Republican, Libertarian, etc. – or not use the knowledge at all.

To establish whether it is meeting its obligations under international human rights law.

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.
