Bit more transparency about the "refrigerators for medicine" issue...

"Contract agreements for storage, including refrigerated storage for around 5,000 pallets of medicines, have recently been signed. The refrigerated storage will cost circa £1 million."

Hmm. That "5,000" figure matches the one mentioned by Matt Hancock on Newsnight yesterday when he was asked *how many fridges* he'd got. "We have contracts in place for 5,000. These are big industrial refrigeration units." (See from 2:30ish in video below)

So either:
- The two figures are coincidentally both 5,000
- Stephen Hammond has muddled up pallets and fridges
- Matt Hancock has muddled up pallets and fridges

Shows the economy is balanced on a knife edge, despite the plumped and massaged employment figures.
(If you didn't know, the Government now counts people who have even one hour of paid work in a week as "employed", and those working unpaid in family businesses. It counts as "economically inactive" anyone who's not looked for work in 4 weeks, or who is not available to work in
the next 2 weeks. "economically inactive" people are not counted when a total numeric figure is quoted for the number of unemployed.)

Older people aged 65+ are seven times more likely than average to share news stories that are untrue (aka fake news) on Facebook.

So one would expect that falsehoods that stoked ingrained views would do particularly well when circulated amongst that group.
It reinforces the "they were lied to" narrative to some extent. But a lie only has an impact if people see it. And the lies were distributed, quite inadvertently, by millions of their peer group.

(I believe that sincerely: most people won't have been conscious that what they
were sharing was untrue. No malice was involved. They were just sharing "interesting stuff" they'd seen. But being more liable to sharing falsehoods, they'll have done the liars' dirty work all the same.)

Weird. Dover's projected to be a huge loser in the case of a no deal Brexit.
A) Traffic through the port will be gunged up across most of Kent
B) Other ports will be used as contingency, taking business away from it

I can only assume that the locals have no idea about the Brexit steamroller that's about to pound the economy of their town into the ground. They may have voted to leave, but @CharlieElphicke really ought to do his job of representing their *interests* properly, and protect them.
It's a pity, because Dover's a nice place. And there are some gorgeous views from the Castle. The town's suffered numerous economic setbacks before, but this has the potential to be the worst - worse even than when the Channel Tunnel pinched a ton of business away.

1/ So, the policy of automatic separation /appears/ to be over.

Which means that parents & kids will be held together in shadowy detention facilities that get little or no outside oversight.

I've filed bunches of FOIA requests with multiple agencies to get a glimpse inside.
2/ And remember: The Office of Refugee Resettlement at Health & Human Services is running an entirely separate system of facilities for children who show up to the border unaccompanied. (The converted Wal-Mart at Brownsville TX is the most famous example.)
3/ The ORR facilities started taking in immigrant children who were forcibly separated from their parents, but that was a recent development. The primary reason they exist is to detain minors who come to the US by themselves.

Anyway, I have FOIA requests in with ORR & HHS too.

We’re up to 1,100 from all 50 states! Having a bigger data set helps us sees trends in emergency room billing.

That’s how I started working on this story: I saw a half-dozen bills for people who went to the ER, but never got treated. They left because the wait was long, or concerns that the bill would be too high.

All were billed hundreds or thousands of dollars.
