John Lewis, M&S, Halfords, Card Factory and Debenhams all reported poor trading results over Christmas this morning. Jaguar Land Rover announced it is cutting up to 5,000 jobs.

Shows the economy is balanced on a knife edge, despite the plumped and massaged employment figures.
(If you didn't know, the Government now counts people who have even one hour of paid work in a week as "employed", and those working unpaid in family businesses. It counts as "economically inactive" anyone who's not looked for work in 4 weeks, or who is not available to work in
the next 2 weeks. "economically inactive" people are not counted when a total numeric figure is quoted for the number of unemployed.)
