Planning a mini northeast geo roadtrip in winter is... challenging.

Any reccs for destinations (that aren't closed for winter & don't require intense gear) around Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, Ithaca? I'm also looking for excuses to duck across state lines to PA, CT, MA.
I adore all of you for your suggestions, even if this whole concept of "lake effect snow" has me shying farther east than my original hope.

I'll retry that whole Niagara / Penn Dixie / Ithaca gorges adventure when things (hopefully) start thawing & reopening in April.
Things I didn't anticipate:
I feel so adrift out east where I don't have a deep mental model of how the rocks formed & changed, nor an internal reference for how climate evolves with seasons.

Ask me to plan a trip anywhere in sight of the Rockies & west, I got you. Here? Lost.

I’m at a party where everyone is discussing the costs of their healthcare plans and I just...

...how can Americans pay this much to receive so little yet still think socialized healthcare is a bad idea?

I can’t even.
My grad school roommate did public healthcare. It’s not my specialization, but our hall mapped out cost vs coverage vs country for 9 months so I’m not clueless.

I’m... not saying a lot of things about how Americans pay more to receive less vs literally anyone else on the planet.
Canadians: Did you know in America they literally advertise health care plans on TV alongside diapers and soft drinks? Life, death, toilet paper, tax software, medication, orange juice.

It’s never not going to be unsettling for me to treat healthcare as a commodity.

Excited to announce that the #Rochester Planning Commission has just approved the first of its kind Live Work Space in a residential zone. This has been on the books since 2003, but has rarely been applied.... 1/6

We feel this outside the box application of the current ordinance will help create more live/work spaces and retain existing spaces for artists in the city. Space, location, and real estate are all primary concerns for Rochester artists. 3/6

Through Jag Singh, I was able to secure a deal where any mention of my name in comments at 'Guido Fawkes' would be 'filtered'. I got this after Paul Staines foolishly demonstrated MessageSpace's involvement in his antics, but now wonder who else got this kind of deal and how/why.
Think about the kind of protection (or targeting) you could offer an MP if you had the power to simply filter out comments in this pit, or perhaps send out 'pile on' alerts to comment trolls who Just Happen To Be In The MessageSpace Office, Watching The Cricket on Broadband.
What made it awkward for Jag Singh was that false/anonymous allegations targeting me could be tracked back to MessageSpace's office, which Paul Staines (and later Harry Cole) regularly used as a UK base for their 'overseas' blog.
