Islam and polygamy.

I don't blame individuals. I blame systems. People will be people. Good and bad. But bad systems will be prone to abuse. Islam is an example of a bad system. It puts all the power in men's hands. For example, power to marry multiple women.
Why would Islam allow a man to marry a second woman? Probably because that's how you grow the religion FAST. I don't have a problem with polygamy if it's done fairly and the woman gets the same right. If only the man, I would say that isn't a fair system.
If she doesn't agree with him marrying a second woman, what can she do? It's "halal", permitted in Islam. And he is even given the moral 'authority' to do so, whereas in western culture it would be considered cheating if he did that behind her back. In Islam, it's okay.
There's actually no way for her to prevent him from marrying a second woman. He would have every legal and religious justification to do so.
If they both agree to it, then by all means. But if he does it without her consent, it's a form of cheating.
In Islam, he can divorce her with a few words that are stated with a waiting period. Nobody else can interfere in his choice. It's his ultimate right. With the woman, she has to REQUEST an annulment through a judge who can deny her that right if he so wishes.
Bad systems lead to bad outcomes. Islam is an example of a bad system.Women get half the inheritance as well. Yet again making them dependent on other men in their family.
