In Paul Manafort's DC case, Mueller's office was due to file materials yesterday supporting its contention that Manafort breached his plea deal by lying. We just got an order from the judge confirming they asked to file under seal, and we'll soon see a redacted version
Here's the first part of the special counsel's filing re: proof that Manafort lied, it's a declaration from an FBI spec. agent explaining the evidence. A lot is redacted (and yes, it is properly redacted so you can't see what's beneath the black bars) assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5684…
In a section about Manafort's alleged lies about direct/indirect contacts with people in the Trump administration, the FBI agent's declaration refers to finding a document dated 5/15/18 written by Manafort, but a lot of info around it is redacted
The FBI agent said Rick Gates told investigators that Manafort talked to him starting in Jan. 2017 about trying to use intermediaries to get people jobs in the Trump admin, and that Manafort was talking to someone through around Feb. 2018 (Who? About what? That's redacted)
You may remember that we learned a bit about Manafort's efforts in late 2016 to get a bank CEO a position in the Trump campaign/administration during his trial in EDVA over the summer: buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…
Here is the second part of the special counsel's filing, which are all the exhibits that they contend support their argument that Manafort lied: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5684…. The vast majority are completely sealed, and the page just says "Redacted." The rest are heavily blacked out
Here's the excerpt from a text message exchange where prosecutors say Manafort gave an unidentified person the okay to use his name if the person met with Trump (note that the whole top half is redacted, as is a full page above it)
The FBI agent's declaration ends with a snipe at Manafort, saying that although Manafort did turn over electronic data and documents, "in more than ten instances he did not provide passwords to access his electronic communications, thumb drives, or documents"
