For the record: You can fly commercial to Afghanistan. I did it for years, and my colleagues still do. Last I heard, @StateDept folks and other American officials were also still flying commercial to Kabul (please correct me if this has changed).
There are many flights a day from Dubai to Kabul on @emirates, @flydubai and other airlines. Or you can go via Istanbul on @TurkishAirlines. Hell, you can even book your tickets online. It's just like flying anywhere else.
I once sat next to Richard Holbrooke on a flight from Dubai to Kabul (he did not shut up the entire flight). Another time, I sat across from Karl Eikenberry, who was then the American ambassador to Afghanistan (and was far less talkative).
You can buy snacks on flights to Kabul. You can watch movies. I think you may even be able to get a drink on Emirates.

My point: It's not wildly outlandish to fly to Afghanistan. Obviously there are security concerns for the speaker of the House. There are also logistical issues -- long layovers, etc. But taking a commercial flight to Kabul is far from extraordinary.
