THREAD: Trump’s Long Pattern of Obstruction (1/12) themoscowproject.org/dispatch/trump…
The report that Trump personally directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress is the clearest evidence yet that the president obstructed justice. (2/12) buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonl…
It’s not just us saying that. It’s also William Barr, Trump’s own nominee for Attorney General, who earlier this week confirmed that “a president persuading a person to commit perjury would be obstruction.” (3/12)
There are also the articles of impeachment against Nixon and Clinton, both of whom were accused of illegally directing others to lie to investigators on their behalf. (4/12)
Perhaps more importantly, if true, it’s part of a long list of examples of Trump obstructing justice. Here are some of the highlights: (5/12) themoscowproject.org/dispatch/trump…
• Asking Comey to go easy on Mike Flynn, then firing Comey for refusing to do so—and bragging that he did it to stop the Russia investigation on national television and the Russian officials in the Oval Office. (6/12) nbcnews.com/nightly-news/v…
• Dangling pardons for top campaign officials. That wouldn’t just be obstruction of justice—it would also be furthering the initial conspiracy to collude with Russia. (7/12) justsecurity.org/62174/pardon-f…
• Tampering with key witnesses, coordinating testimony and praising those who refuse to talk to investigators while attacking those who do. (8/12) washingtonpost.com/nation/2018/12…
• Forcing out his attorney general and illegally usurping the DOJ’s chain of command to replace him with a loyalist who’s openly attacked Mueller and outlined how to end the investigation. (9/12) themoscowproject.org/dispatch/trump…
• Trying to fire Mueller and Rosenstein, both of which were prompted by news that the investigation was closing in on Trump. (10/12) nytimes.com/2018/01/25/us/…
• Dictating the cover-up of the June 9 meeting—including by describing it as about “adoptions,” a topic he also just so happened to have discussed with Putin at G20. (11/12) nytimes.com/2017/07/19/us/…
There’s no question Trump obstructed justice. The only question is how deep the wrongdoing he’s trying to cover up goes—and whether he’s once again coordinating his illegal behavior with the Kremlin. (12/12) themoscowproject.org/dispatch/trump…
