I'll be live-tweeting in an hour as members of the AWS #Serverless Apps Repo team demo the apps they've built this week during the #sarhackathon 🐿
First up is lambda-versions-deleter serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a…. This app will clean up your old Lambda Function Versions for you. Inspiration came from a pain-point we experienced internally while building Serverless Apps Repo.
Next we have cw-logs-to-chime serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a…. This app listens to CloudWatch Logs and sends them to a Chime (aws.amazon.com/chime/) room. Be sure to specify the FilterPattern parameter!
Oh nice. Keeton also wrote a similar app but for sending logs to Slack serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a….
* correct link for CloudWatch Logs to Slack app serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a…. The one I linked to before is actually also really interesting....
When Keeton first told me about this app I asked him to break it down into generic Chime and Slack message broker Lambda Functions, so you can easily create Chime+Slack connected applications - and that's exactly what he's done.
That is, his CloudWatch Logs to Chime/Slack applications take a dependency on these other apps which purely act as a message broker to these services. App composition like this is the thing I'm most excited about with #Serverless and SAR.
An Alexa Skill app is next! Ask Alexa how long your commute to work is going to take. Waiting to hear if this app has been made public in SAR yet and will post a link if it has.
Another operational app github.com/honglu/aws-sqs… which allows you to redrive your SQS DLQ. From the Readme: "This is helpful when you fix the bug that was causing the messages ending up in DLQ and you need to put the messages back to process" 🔧
Next up is @jlhcoder with the Logs-to-Athena app (as suggested by @milancermak) serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a…. This is really awesome. Allows you to use SQL-like syntax for querying your logs in near-realtime!
And finally I demoed the serverless-website-canary app serverlessrepo.aws.amazon.com/applications/a… (ignore the Readme; I'll improve it!). Specify a website URL and a DOM element to wait for (CSS selector) and the app will continually run at a customizable frequency and 🚨 if it detects an outage
You can specify either an email address for simple notification, or nest the app in a more complex app containing an SNS ARN if you want a customizable notification. For example, I could compose this with Keeton's app to send alerts to a Slack/Chime room 🔥
That's all folks! Thanks for following along. If you have any other apps you'd like to see implemented, please let us know. 🙌
