As some of you may know, one of my passions is old Hindi Film Songs. I organize Stage Shows worldwide featuring some of the best singers and musicians in the Country and last week we did our 279th Show. All Profits go to Charity
I enjoy the Shows so much that a few years ago I started recording them and posting them on YouTube. Tremendous response. I get at least 10 calls a day from abroad from people who literally cry on the phone and tell me how these songs connect them to their past
The channel now has over 100k Subscribers, over 55 million views and some 50k daily views. Last week someone asked me why don't I monetize it. On checking I found that all the Revenue that the Channel was generating- a substantial amount- was being appropriated by SaReGaMa.
Enquiries revealed that though they have copyright on the original Songs, all rights for cover versions and Performances vest with me. So I'm going to monetize it. It started as a passion with no monetary motive, I enjoyed it despite cost and effort of posting about 1500 Songs
I got the opportunity to interact with hundreds of very fine people and received a lot of recognition and appreciation. Now I might make some Money from it too- which will go to charity. Should I feel guilty about it?
Look around. Everything is being monetized. Companies look around for 'people with influence' and pay them to write about them on FB, blogs or Instagram. Film and Sport Personalities get paid for endorsing Products and making appearances
The net has made it possible for people to monetize their cars thru Uber, homes thru Airbnb, cooking skills thru Zomato and on and on. Hell US and UK Presidents monetize their fame by charging millions for speaking at various forums or ghost writing books.
With this backdrop I find it strange that there is so much hostility towards Successful or Experienced (or both if you're lucky) Traders trying to monetize the Skills they have acquired thru a lot of hard work and a hefty tuition fee paid to Mr Market.
And they are attempting to sell skills not to some Orphans but to Traders whose sole motive is to make as much Money as they possibly can. 'Retail Traders' don't appear to be a class of underprivileged people deserving Monetary consideration. Can anyone shed some light on this
And yes-people who want to enjoy some great Music-please visit and subscribe to my YouTube Channel and contribute to my Bank Account
