okay so i know the trendy alt-med thing nowadays is to blame everything on "inflammation" but if that's really the case, then why can't you treat it with COX inhibitors?
not that high doses of COX inhibitors are necessarily a great thing long-term, but surely it would be a mimetic for some other form of treatment, right?
okay it looks like the answer is that "acute inflammation" and "chronic inflammation" are two completely different things that someone gave the same name, and there isn't actually good evidence high-dose NSAIDs help for things like rheumatoid arthritis etc
this is like where they called them all supernova but then discovered that type Ia supernova were something entirely different
so that's what happened, isn't it

low-dose aspirin helps acute inflammation bc it irreversibly inhibits COX-1

high-dose aspirin helps chronic inflammation bc it uncouples oxidative phosphorylation

and decades ago, they had no idea these differing mechanisms existed
right, and of course nobody can test aspirin's long term efficacy in large groups because nobody will fund a study on a 100 year old unpatented drug
