The US-backed Guatemalan military killed over 200,000 people, mostly unarmed civilians. Entire ethnicities were marked for extermination. I visited these communities, still decimated, last month and their stories shook me to my core. Abrams will now handle Venezuela for Trump.

And for what it's worth, my visit to Ixil Mayan communities was for book research, but I did post this. It was very hard for me to speak with these people about this. The horrors they described were too monstrous for my mind to integrate, and afterwards I just slept for days.

Slight correction to the current conversation about past US interventions in Latin America. Those didn't "accidentally," often "lead to" bad things. In many cases, we now know the bad things (extermination of dissidents, right-wing dictatorship) were the plan from the beginning.
I truly don't know how relevant that is to current events in Venezuela (Truly! though I do think it's relevant to Venezuelan perceptions) but if we're going to be intellectually serious about Latin American history we have to drop the presumption the US always had good intentions
Also worth nothing - it's happened MANY times that intelligent people believed (incorrectly) that the Bad Days of coups and violent dictatorships were over. Jango thought he would get to run again. Allende thought Cold War détente gave him space to build democratic socialism, etc

It's inaccurate when they say that Cuban doctors in Brazil don't receive their full "salary." They get 100% of their salary. What they don't get is 100% of the revenue paid to their corporation for the services they provide, but I bet if you check, neither do you

It's literally the most ironic thing that has ever happened, tropical fascists finally understanding global capitalism but only because they want to own Fidel Castro, unfortunately though the whole phenomenon is too complicated to explain in a youtube video so it doesn't exist

Did you know what when you go to mcdonalds and you hand the worker money he only gets to keep a fraction of it
As a matter of fact, if he keeps 100% of that money, there could even be legal consequences for him
Hold on I'm now just getting word that often, people make less money than other people just because they come from poorer countries. Surely they will end this if anyone finds out

Both Felipe Gómez and Jakelin Caal came from remote indigenous communities, where migration has long been seen a reasonable response to Guatemala’s hardship, racism and violence.

2/n There are numerous places that are indicated as the locations where various events happened in reference to Ramayana.
There are quite less archeological evidence as an effort has not been made with systematic excavations.
3/n To doubt the existence of Rama is to doubt all literature. There is little archaeological or epigraphic evidence for either Jesus or Muhammad who are known only from the scriptures. Does it mean they did not exist?

1. Scapegoating immigrants and 'valuating'people based on race/ethnicity is not new. I say this to draw attention to the shame that we haven't evolved past this and to remind that, as Americans, we must stand against the hatred that plagued the lives of many of our own families.
2. Are you aware of your genealogy? Are you familiar with the trials and tribulations experienced by your ancestors when they came to this country? If you turn a blind eye to this hatred because it's targeted at POC - are you aware that European immigrants faced hatred also?
3. My mother and father's families both immigrated from Ireland in the early 1850's - fleeing starvation and oppression to a promise of freedom and opportunity in America. My mother's family first went to CO to take their chance at the Gold Rush.
