This also means @Ocasio2018 will have roughly 8 (!) hours per day more than her colleagues to spend on legislation, at hearings, reading, writing, doing press, meeting with constituents, etc. Her colleagues schedule is more like the following: /1
Morning: breakfast PAC fundraiser
Mid-morning: Call time (dialing rich people for $)
Mid-day: Office check in, lobbyist meetings
Afternoon: Call time, meetings with lobbyists
Evening: PAC fundraiser

In between are votes and hearings. The former you go to, the latter you skip.

Running an NGO especially an upcoming one is so strenuous and burdensome. I tried it and failed three times.

After working for 5 years in Government, I couldn't discover my spark. I couldn't get the fulfilment I wanted. I didn't see a 9 - 5 job as challenging as I wanted. I needed something different. Something that connects me to the community directly.
Attending to patients and seeing them walk out of hospital feeling better was so warm to me. I enjoyed turning their tears of pain into tears of joy. However, inelastic structures in the system wouldn't allow me to offer more.
