judging by all the snarky replies to this tweet, I'm going to guess not many ppl actually read this nuanced and thoughtful article exploring a complex pedagogical issue--an issue for which there are no easy answers or absolutes.
Maybe rather than yelling YES LECTURE IS ALWAYS GOOD or NO IT NEVER IS, read what @dgooblar actually has to say?
I'm stuck by the irony, though, of the academic Twitter threads arguing the traditional conference paper format is worthless and boring one week, then running to the barricades to defend lecturing against its critics the next.
Also, I am fully aware that I am a purveyor of large quantities of snark on this here website, so I'm definitely not hating on snarkiness.

Zimmerman--and others who write these coddled-snowflakes-threaten-my-free-speech pieces--uses the "slippery slope" argument, arguing that taking down Silent Sam, for example, is tantamount to historical erasure, like getting rid of "historical remnants".
3. But Zimmerman's already pulling a sleight-of-hand here. Silent Sam is not a "historical remnant." The statue of Davis at UT is not a "historical remnant." They are monuments, occupying prominent and privileged spaces at these institutions.

I was reading a story about the #MAGATeens from #CovingtonCatholic & there was this little tidbit about how the school has students add “born & unborn” to the end of the Pledge of Allegiance & I’m just like 😳😳😳
The pledge is already a weird nationalist throwback we force children to memorize & say, but then to alter it to add your religious beliefs about abortion...yikes. Every day I am grateful I made it out of that small town KY white Catholic community.
As a queer black woman, I knew that things I was taught in HS were wrong but was afraid to speak up. I just waited to leave & as an adult, I struggle to go back bc I see how many ppl actually believed the shit being shoved down our throats...or perhaps they swallowed willing.

@RubinReport @joerogan would like to formally recommend that you have on some "expert" and someone affected by CDC guidelines to talk about the #opioidcrisis grounded in reality and not rhetoric and fear mongering. I think there is nuance here, and few people understand .../1
the relationship between the AMA and the CDC, and how government over reach has actually been the main cause of the spike in suicide due to pain or forced taper. I am not talking about guys who broke an ankle and got hooked on morphine(or a derivative) I am talking about...../2
chronically ill and sick people, who have diseases destroying their body. They live in pain, most are bed ridden, and yet this one time released pill everyone demonizes allows them to spend the days with their families, kids, be productive, have purpose..../3

This is a "pox on all your houses" take. And it's meant to justify the support of its author, @matthewschmitz, and his magazine, @firstthingsmag, a conservative Catholic publication, of Trump. Here's what I mean: 1/
The article appears to take a neutral stance, just laying out the different "family values" held based on class, arguing that Trump's "family values" align well with those of non-elites, whether religious or not. 2/
But here's the key passage: "Just as a Catholic priest at a wealthy parish would be accustomed to overlooking his parishioners’ discreet reliance on contraception (a respectable practice his Church condemns as immoral)..." 3/
