Zimmerman--and others who write these coddled-snowflakes-threaten-my-free-speech pieces--uses the "slippery slope" argument, arguing that taking down Silent Sam, for example, is tantamount to historical erasure, like getting rid of "historical remnants".
3. But Zimmerman's already pulling a sleight-of-hand here. Silent Sam is not a "historical remnant." The statue of Davis at UT is not a "historical remnant." They are monuments, occupying prominent and privileged spaces at these institutions.

judging by all the snarky replies to this tweet, I'm going to guess not many ppl actually read this nuanced and thoughtful article exploring a complex pedagogical issue--an issue for which there are no easy answers or absolutes.
Maybe rather than yelling YES LECTURE IS ALWAYS GOOD or NO IT NEVER IS, read what @dgooblar actually has to say?
I'm stuck by the irony, though, of the academic Twitter threads arguing the traditional conference paper format is worthless and boring one week, then running to the barricades to defend lecturing against its critics the next.

@BFMradio :: The letter is addressed to members of the media. Not to members of the public. Regardless of good intention, fwding the letter to those other than intended reader is to violate the writer’s agency. If you want to help, don't start by disregarding what the writer intends.
@BFMradio The writer is already aware of the high cost s/he may face for disclosing this. Exposing wrongful power practices - and sexual harassment is a form of wrongful practice of power - is always risky.

Let’s talk about rape and sexual harassment allegations against Emmett Rensin and Sam Kriss - both Jacobin mag writers. But also broadly talk of how “leftism” is being used as a shield by predatory men and how we can stop this once and for all.
First: let’s establish that this is not an isolated incident. We have similar allegations against Mark Ames and sexual harassment allegations against Jamie Kilstein. Matt Taibbi is currently being dragged for his own claims of harassment.
All these men have two things in common - besides their criminal behavior towards women-: they are/were entrenched leftist writers/journalists with large followings on social media - but more importantly, amongst left social media.

1) WHY WOMEN KEEP SILENT

So, I was raped when I was about four. It never occurred to me to say anything until I was about eleven.
2) At four, I didn't know what the term rape meant; I knew what had been done and that it wasn't right but who would I tell?? I was ashamed.
3) I remember thinking I'd be mortified if my parents ever found out I'd been a "participant" in this lewd act. God forbid they found out.
