Just ask yourself: do bots deserve free speech? Or: is there any reason why ads that are regulated on TV should not be regulated online?
the point is NOT to recreate the old world of old media: that's gone. the point is to think about how to make the new world of new media compatible with democracy. Chinese have already figured out to make it compatible with autocracy. Can we think of something better?

Maybe because your "civilizationism" is invented? These are hypocritical movements that seek money and power for their leaders, and indulge the resentments of their followers. They lie, cheat and assault the rule of law in order to stay in power. Nothing to do with civilization.
I repeat: There is a reason why these kinds of leaders don't like independent courts, independent media or an apolitical civil service. It's because they want to use the organs of the state for personal and party gain, and they need to cover that up.
Remember, we are talking about "anti-immigration" leaders who personally employ illegal immigrants, or "anti-communists" whose most trusted comrades include former communists and police informers. So if you care about immigration, or anti-communism, you should be wary of them.

I watched this speech - was more interesting than described here. @tom_watson described the "exploitation of digital platforms by anti-democratic interests," and called for regulation, ad transparency, anti-monopoly legislation...
he also spoke about "building public interest into business models" of tech companies. If only UK politicians were not trapped in the Brexit debate, indefinitely, Britain would be leading on this issue. Germans, French, even Americans are way behind.
also, there is bipartisan support for these issues in the UK - @DamianCollins is also about to produce a good report. A lot could be done.

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.

Very interesting. Trump's second pardon of his presidency. Remember Saucier argued that he did much less than Hillary and got much worse. Trump even used this during the campaign.
I wonder is this in preparation for something of great consequence?
By granting a pardon is Trump clearing all legal roadblocks to Hillary's case? It's an interesting theory. Sauciers lawyers would have petitioned saying that he was unfairly treated. This way Trump is preemptively removing that possibility
I've been trying to make a thread about this case. It is the most bizarre thing ever. I get a "failed to send tweet message" everytime I try to post something against Hillary or about gun control. I guess they think people would just give up trying again and again. Quite devious
