1. I'm used to the fact that the City budget is complex and it's hard to form a clear simpme picture of what is happening. I've spent the last few days digging through hundreds of pages to form a picture and I have two main things to say
2. First, in oder to keep taxes low we are ditching huge amouts of regular maintenace and repair work. Some examples: we are going to be closing a large number of public housing units starting in 2021 because of lack of repairs
3. In ten years we are going to be $3 BILLION behind in road maintenance (the Gardiner will be fine though). Eight libraries that should be getting upgrades/ repairs simply won't. Parks and Rec does even worse. In 10 years not a single trail or path will be in a good state.
4. The problem at the TTC runs over $30 billion even of we don't add any new transit lines. It goes on and on and on.
5. The second thing I learned. Usually when a problem like this emerges the main budget presentation lays it put so we know. Thus budget that didn't happen. I had to put it together myself. I am plenty mad. - end
