0/61: Here is my 61-part trivia thread on the 61st #Grammys, taking place tomorrow in Los Angeles.
1/61: Grammy nominees for Record, Album, and Song of the Year.
2/61: Childish Gambino and @KendrickLamar have both been nominated for Record of the Year two years in a row. The last person to do that was @TaylorSwift13 for “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.”
3/61: @TheBlackPanther’s soundtrack is the first film soundtrack nominated for Album of the Year since O Brother, Where Art Thou (2001). That soundtrack won the category.
4/61: @HERMusicx’s self-titled album is the 5th self-titled album nominated for Album of the Year since 2000. Others:
-The Marshall Mathers LP (2000)
-The @Eminem Show (2002)
-The Diary of @AliciaKeys (2004)
-@Beyonce (2014)
5/61: In exactly half of all years at the #Grammys, Record and Song of the Year have gone to the same song. This year, there are 6 overlaps:
“All the Stars”
“God’s Plan”
“The Joke”
“The Middle”
“Shallow”
“This Is America”
6/61: “Shallow” (@StarIsBornMovie) and “All the Stars” (@TheBlackPanther) are the first songs since “Lose Yourself” (8 Mile, 2002) to be nominated for both Song of the Year at the Grammys and Best Original Song at the Oscars.
7/61: H.E.R. (@HERMusicx) is tied for the fewest number of characters (excluding punctuation) in the name of a Best New Artist nominee. Others:
A-ha (@Aha_Com)
SWV (@TheRealSWV)
Fun. (@OurNameIsFun)
SZA (@SZA)
Fun is the only one of these four to win the category.
8/61: The four general categories have expanded to 8 nominees for the first time ever. You can read more of my analysis on that change in this @AP/@APEntertainment article by @KMHall: apnews.com/04dce36e7a764a…
9/61: @LadyGaga’s “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?)” is her third nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance. Since the modern category structure was put in place, only @Kelly_Clarkson has more nominations in this category, with 4.
10/61: “Girls Like You,” by @Maroon5 feat. @IAmCardiB, is the 4th Group Performance nomination for Maroon 5, the most ever in that category. They were previously nominated for “Move Like Jagger,” “Sugar,” and “Payphone,” but lost all three.
11/61: No one has ever won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance twice. Both @ItsTonyBennett (“’S Wonderful” with @DianaKrall) and Christina Aguilera (@xtina) (“Fall in Line” with Demi Lovato) have a chance to change that.
12/61: This is @BarbraStreisand’s 12th nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and she’s still looking for her first win. Aside from her, only Rosemary Clooney (0/7) has more than 5 nominations without a win in this category.
13/61: If @ItsTonyBennett and @DianaKrall win Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, there will have been more years in which Bennett won this category (15) than did not win (13).
14/61: @WillieNelson is going for his 2nd Traditional Pop Vocal Album #Grammys win in 3 years, something only @ItsTonyBennett and @MichaelBuble have previously achieved.
15/61: Two self-titled albums are up for Best Pop Vocal Album, “Camila” (@Camila_Cabelo) and “Shawn Mendes” (@ShawnMendes). That has never happened before.
16/61: @Kelly_Clarkson tied @JTimberlake for most nominations with her 5th nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, and could surpass @Adele for most wins if she achieves her 3rd win in the category.
17/61: @TaylorSwift13 is going for her 2nd Pop Vocal Album #Grammys win, which would tie @Adele and @Kelly_Clarkson for the most all-time.
18/61: Beautiful Trauma is @Pink’s 4th nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, making her the most nominated artist in this category without a win.
19/61: @ChrisCornell receives his second consecutive nomination for Best Rock Performance, joining @Coldplay, @MumfordAndSons, Jack White, and @Alabama_Shakes (twice) as the only artists with back-to-back nominations in this category.
20/61: All five nominees for Best Metal Performance (Between the Buried and Me - @BTBAMofficial, @DeafheavenBand, @HighOnFireBand, @TriviumOfficial, @UnderoathBand) are first-time nominees in the category. That hasn’t happened since the category’s inaugural year, 1989.
21/61: This is @Bjork’s 8th nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, tied for the most all-time with @Radiohead. Bjork is still looking for her first win in the category.
22/61: This is @Beck’s 7th nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, one shy of @Radiohead and @Bjork for the most ever.
23/61: @Beck is going for his 3rd win for Best Alternative Music Album at the #Grammys, which would tie @Radiohead and The White Stripes for the most all-time.
24/61: @St_Vincent has a chance to join The White Stripes and @Coldplay as the only multi-time winners of Best Alternative Music Album without any losses in the category.
25/61: @LalahHathaway is trying to join Ray Charles as the only people with multiple wins in the combined Best R&B Performance category.
26/61: @LalahHathaway could get her 4th win for Best Traditional R&B Performance, which would be two more than anyone else.
27/61: @Miguel has a chance to join @Beyonce as the only artists with multiple wins for Best R&B Song this decade.
28/61: This is @Miguel’s 3rd nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, tying him with @Beyonce for the most all-time.
29/61: @ToniBraxton and @LalahHathaway are both looking to join the club of multi-time Best R&B Album winners. Current members: @AliciaKeys, @JohnLegend, @OfficialTLC, @TheDAngelo.
30/61: @Drake performs on two of the nominees for Best Rap Performance this year (“Nice for What,” “Sicko Mode”). The only others to do that in one year are @KanyeWest and Jay-Z (@S_C_), both in 2012, and Drake himself in 2015.
31/61: These are @Drake’s 8th and 9th nominations for Best Rap Performance, which is the most in the category’s history.
32/61: @KendrickLamar already has the most wins in history for Best Rap Performance with 3, and is going for his 4th with “King’s Dead.”
33/61: @KendrickLamar could win Best Rap/Sung Performance in back-to-back years for “LOYALTY.” and “All the Stars.” The only others to have done that are @KanyeWest and Jay-Z (@S_C_), who have each done it twice.
34/61: @KendrickLamar is up for his 4th win in the last 5 years for Best Rap Song. That would be the second most behind @KanyeWest’s 6 wins.
35/61: With a win tomorrow, @IAmCardiB would become the first solo female rapper to win Best Rap Album. She is nominated for Invasion of Privacy.
36/61: This is @KeithUrban’s 4th nomination for Best Country Solo Performance, tied with @MirandaLambert for second place behind @CarrieUnderwood’s 5.
37/61: @MarenMorris joins @HunterHayes and @CarrieUnderwood as the only singers nominated for Best Country Solo Performance three years in a row.
38/61: @ChrisStapleton and @CarrieUnderwood are tied for the most wins for Best Country Solo Performance with two apiece. Stapleton could break that tie with a win for “Millionaire.”
39/61: This is @BrothersOsborne’s 4th nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, second most behind @LittleBigTown’s 6.
40/61: If @LittleBigTown wins Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “When Someone Stops Loving You,” they will have won half the trophies in this category since the modern rules were set in 2011.
41/61: @KaceyMusgraves and @LittleBigTown are both vying to win their second honors for Best Country Song. Only Alan Jackson (@OfficialJackson), @CarrieUnderwood, @TaylorSwift13, and @TheTimMcGraw have accomplished that in this century.
42/61: Last year, @ChrisStapleton tied @LadyAntebellum and Roger Miller with his second win for Best Country Album. This year, he could move into sole possession of second place behind the @DixieChicks.
43/61: @CecileSalvant has won Best Jazz Vocal Album two of the last three years, and with another win this year would move into second place for most wins all-time behind @DianneReeves1.
44/61: This is @RealKurtElling’s 12th nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album, extending his record for the most nominations in the history of this category.
45/61 The @CountBasieOrch has 5 wins for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, going back to 1977, and is up for #6 this year. They reside in second place behind Duke Ellington’s 8 wins.
46/61: @BobbySanabria and @MiguelZenon both received their 4th nominations for Best Latin Jazz Album, tying the record for most nominations without a win in the category, though either could achieve that first win tomorrow.

48/61: @Aterciopelados set a new record for most Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative Album nominations without a win, with their 5th nomination in the category, though they could get that first win on Sunday.
49/61: @AidaCuevas could become the first back-to-back winner of Best Regional Mexican Album.
50/61: Pat McLaughlin & @JohnPrineMusic are nominated for Best American Roots Song for both “Knockin’ on Your Screen Door” and “Summer’s End,” making them the first people nominated for multiple American roots songs in the same year.
51/61: @ZiggyMarley extended his record for most nominations for Best Reggae Album to 13. He already holds the record for most wins with 7.
52/61: BTS (@BTS_bighit / @BTS_twt) became the first K-pop group ever nominated for a Grammy with their nomination for Best Recording Package for Love Yourself: Tear, designed by HuskyFox. #BTS #BTSinAmerica
53/61: Former President Jimmy Carter is going for his 3rd win for Best Spoken Word Album. That would tie Orson Welles for the most all-time.
54/61: Dave Chappelle is going for his second consecutive #Grammys win for Best Comedy Album. He would join George Carlin, Bill Cosby, @SteveMartinToGo, Richard Pryor, Peter Schickele, and Robin Williams as the only back-to-back winners.

58/61: Star Wars: The Last Jedi is John Williams’ 33rd nomination at the #Grammys for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. He has 11 wins, including a preposterous 6-in-a-row stretch (Star Wars, Close Encounters, Superman, Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.).
59/61: All five Best Song Written for Visual Media nominees (All the Stars, Mystery of Love, Remember Me, Shallow, This Is Me) are Oscar Best Song nominees. The last time that happened was 2004, when “Into the West” from Lord of the Rings III won.
60/61: This is the first time in 12 years that all of the artists nominated for Best Music Video are first-time nominees. That year, @OKGo won for “Here It Goes Again.”
