1/ We issued the @cbinsights 3rd annual AI 100 this year to highlight 100 artificial intelligence companies our data suggests are the most promising

2/ The AI100 has become kind of a big deal for startups and so we've gotten lots of inbound from companies and investors about why they're not included

We tell them all the same thing

3/ Most founders (or PR firms) are quite nice

We tell them that this is the top 100 based on our data/inputs but it doesn't mean there are not great companies who don't make the list
4/ But some founders, investors, PR folks suggest there is something else to the rankings. That you have to be a @cbinsights customer or attend our events or do something else to get into our favor

Their emails are generally angry and accusatory

It's an interesting approach
5/ To the folks who make these claims, I'd first like to say "fuck you"

The @cbinsights team works their ass off to acquire the data, sift through hundreds of companies (many whose marketing drivel is beyond intelligible) and create these briefs, landscapes and ratings
6/ When we do these landscapes, market maps or AI 100 style roundups, we provide exposure to a bunch of deserving startups

Some use it for PR, in their pitch decks and in their recruiting efforts

It's cool that being in a @cbinsights piece now might mean something
7/ I get your butthurt you didn't get in and you want to vent

That's fine.

But don't go making unfounded claims. Just update your profile here - editor.cbinsights.com
8/ I've been trying to stay off Twitter this year but folks making these baseless claims got me fired up as I know how hard the @cbinsights team works

That's all. Peace.
