I get that there's a lot of young people that want to be proud of their people and heritage. I *somewhat* agree.

How do we steer them away from a path where their heritage and people are the only ones they respect? How do we prevent them from ignoring the mistakes of the past?
I understand the whole 'equality feels like oppression when you've been privileged' schtick.

Acknowledging the achievements of other peoples, and the very real fallibility of their forebears doesn't mean there isn't much to *respect*, even *admire* about these kids' ancestors.
This is something that I've struggled with for years, especially working in heritage education.

You've got to give kids something to admire about the past - otherwise, bad actors are going to manipulate their desire for something to cling on to.

Anyway. Yeah.
