#PSA The team of IOES UM have spotted the presence of potentially venomous jellyfish (hydrozoan) along the shore of Bachok, Kelantan. Avoid to have direct skin contact with this animal. Please be careful if you’re near the beach.
It could be the blue bottle or Indo-Pacific Portuguese man-of-war, is a marine hydrozoan of the order Siphonophora found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Normally, this species might be stranded on beaches, where their toxic nematocysts can remain potent for weeks in moist conditions. Its long tentacles deliver a painful sting, which is venomous & powerful enough to kill fish. So, kau kena sengat memang sakit ye kawan2. Be careful
While the man o’ war’s sting is rarely deadly to people, it packs a painful punch & causes welts on exposed skin.
Stings usually cause severe pain to humans, leaving whip-like, red welts on the skin that normally last 2 or 3 days after the initial sting, though the pain should subside after about 1 to 3 hours (depending on the biology of the person stung).
However, the venom can travel to the lymph nodes & may cause symptoms that mimic an allergic reaction including swelling of the larynx, airway blockage, cardiac distress, and an inability to breathe.
