Amazon Scraps Plan for Opening HQ2 in New York City
Amazon cited lack of cooperation from local politicians as a reason for pulling out. This will hurt both Amazon and NYC.
Amazon's official statement on pulling out of the deal with New York to build one of their headquarters there:
It is a loss of high quality jobs (they were planning to locally hire 25,000 IT professionals, project managers, sales people, etc to sell their services to corporations) for NYC, no question about it. Here's representative Pete King from Long Island, NY.
Meanwhile @AOC is gloating. Hopefully people in New York who were looking forward to these jobs and growth in economy can begin to see how her firebrand activism, while endearing to some, can be quite toxic for others. Socialists always cause misery.
Instead of $3 billion, New York could have had Amazon for a song, just by promising regulatory cooperation. Now Amazon pulled out despite monetary incentives because every political parasite was demanding its own pound of flesh, meaning interminable delays. Amazon said FU.
