As an employer, I'll speak to the perception of "temp hiring" for pentesters. If you don't have professional liability insurance (not cheap), I can't sub to you (even if I wanted to). I'd love to hire more of the right people and I think other co's are similarly situated. 1/2
Obviously I can't speak for everyone's experience, but the two things that have lead me to "dump" someone are:
1. Not delivering on work on the agreed upon schedule
2. Not being able to report their findings

This means that first = last. Particularly on the reporting part, I've had folks swear they wrote an awesome report and "nobody has ever complained before" but it's not going on my letterhead if it doesn't have good grammar, has mass spelling mistakes, etc. 3/4
But some people take that as "dumping after one engagement." I look at it as a mismatch between expectation on the employer side and delivery on the employee side. If everyone isn't happy, you shouldn't continue the relationship in any case. 4/4
