I expect to see stories in the coming days saying:

“Portland Police tried to build friendly communications with leftist protesters but were not received well”

Basically trying to say well PPB tried to talk to both sides so obviously they don’t favor one.
But one side is Nazis lol. People aren’t mad because PPB should have been cozy with “both sides” they are mad because PPB was cozy with fascists. Comparing the two is another false equivalency.
Even if police were able to infiltrate and compromise leftist protesters, that wouldn’t make any friendliness with fascists acceptable.
And I get that every story has to fill a lane and the alt weeklys already went with the idea that Patriot Prayer and Joey Gibson are fascists, but you don’t have to pick the opposite side of that. Sometimes you have to stipulate to certain facts even with your competition.
