To a first approximation: the papers that aren’t a blueprint to a billion dollars probably aren’t true, and the papers which are true probably are a blueprint to a billion dollars.
The two functions of the startup ecosystem:

1) Fund a series of low stakes experiments getting folks not entirely unlike graduate assistants to chisel out a few new facts about the world

2) If those facts are true, throw arbitrarily large sum of money at it worldwide.
