1) The economic numbers for the first 6 months are out and boy they aren’t pretty. (I know, my PTI friends, the PM is very handsome but you’d be surprised to learn that his good looks aren’t able to prevent our 6-month old, PTI-induced, economic slide). Let me give some numbers.
2) All numbers here compare the 1st 6 months of FY 18/19 with FY 17/18. Budget deficit went up from Rs 796 b to Rs 1030 billion. PTI has recorded the highest 1st half deficit in our 71 year history. Prediction: They will create the largest deficit in our history this year.
3)Remember the PM said he’ll double revenues because he is trustworthy. Tax revenues went up by only 2.4%. With inflation at 7% & growth at 3%, revenues needed to increase 10% just to stay the same in real terms. Here they declined in real terms. What happened to the trust?
4)If revenues are flat & deficit has climbed by 30%, where is the money going? Pro poor expenses like BISP? No. They are flat. Development expenditures like building dams, universities, hospitals? No. They are down by 36%. Why is deficit at a record? Hasn’t PTI brought austerity?
5) No austerity at all. Current expenses up by Rs 439 billion or 17%. PTI trying to show that mark up payments and defence are eating it up. But the truth is that non-defence, non-interest expenses (including traveling expenses for ministers) is up by 16% or Rs 226 billion.
6)Inflation is up monthly. So are interest rates, gas & power prices. I request PTI friends to sit together & fight for our poor people. Work to reduce inflation & unemployment. You were sent here to do a job; not for taking selfies in sunglasses. Do your job You are all handsome
