When it comes to the refusal to affirm the full dignity of LGBTQIA+ persons, the Church universal is wrong.

This is not about individual churches and pastors doing the work. We know they exist. It is about an institution that routinely chooses to place value in particular lives and ideologies over others.

The constant refusal to recognize the full humanity of marginalized populations by people who worship a man who lived at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities dishonor him and grieve his father's heart.

Be clear: we are only called to lay our identities -our race/gender/sexuality/class/social location- at the altar when we weaponize them against those who are different. When I live fully into who God created me to be, I am fulfilling purpose. That is not sin and never will be.

Evangelicalism is one of the greatest sins of the Church. It will be the death of it and, quite honestly, it needs to be.

May the church as we know it die so that something much more whole, healthy and life-giving be born.
