Story: Around the time I was leaving HUD, I got asked to interview for a job with a $250K/year salary. More than I'd ever made.
Turned out the job would entail working for someone who'd been on George W. Bush's national security team. So I declined. Didn't have to think about it. I don't even shake hands with those people. Their money is no good to me.
The point is, it's perfectly ok to make enemies, as well as to make decisions based on your values, regardless of how it will impact your prospects for professional advancement.
