1/ How are you going to pay for it?

[#LearnMMT THREAD]

Our federal representatives, media, and so-called experts incessantly tell us that it is

not
possible

to give us the things that would help us

not die,
suffer,
go bankrupt, or
be unemployed.
2/ Our representatives tell us that they

can't

give us these things, even though they

really

want to.

They can't because, they tell us, if they dared even try, it would cause

"out of control inflation,"
dramatically raised taxes,
"wasted taxpayer dollars,"
3/ and "the ballooning debt and deficit would bankrupt our grandchildren when the bills came due."

They tell us that the only thing more important than helping the people

not die,
suffer,
go bankrupt, or
be unemployed.

is to be "fiscally responsible."
4/ Because,

"China!"

and

Economic Armageddon

and, of course,

“hOw ArE YOu gOiNg To PaY fOr iT?”
5/ #MMT, reveals that the concern for "fiscal responsibility" is economically inaccurate. For the federal government of the richest country – the most resource rich nation – in the history of the world, MMT demonstrates that these concerns are, in fact, economically nonsensical.
6/ The United States has an abundance of real resources* sitting

idle or underutilized,
or
being used inefficiently or immorally.

These resources could be utilized for the many tomorrow (& could have been decades ago) but our government withholds that abundance from the many...
7/ ...because that's exactly what they’re paid to do.

(*real resources: raw materials, labor, technology, and time)

Our federal representatives would rather be legally bribed into millionaire-dom by billionaires than to help the people – no matter how desperate they are.
8/ And since our government won’t provide for us, the many are left desperate. With no alternatives, we are pushed into the arms of for-profit, private corporations for our everyday survival. We are forced into private debt, including:
9/
Bank loans,
credit cards,
car loans,
student loans,
home loans,
payday loans,
Debt because we have
terrible healthcare, and
Debt because we have
no healthcare at all.
10/ (And WHAT A COINCIDENCE. These for-profit, private companies, who profit off of our

unemployment,
bankruptcy,
suffering, and
death.

just
so
happen

to be owned by the very same billionaires that bribe our representatives.)
11/ MMT reveals that big things are possible, right now.

The only thing we need do is figure out what the people need to survive.

Figure out how to do it

morally,

efficiently, and

WITHOUT INFLATION,

and then

do

it.

As urgently as you can.

Right now.
12/ If the people don’t understand how our economy actually works, then what is the point in even discussing policy at all, of any kind? What is the point, when our conceptions of what policies are possible and not possible are so far off as to be meaningless?

There is no point.
13/ And that is exactly the point.

Especially when posed by a federal representative,

"How are you going to pay for it?"

is a deeply sinister question.

Here is the technically correct answer to the question, "How are you going to pay for it?":

“Congressional appropriations.
14/ We are a fiat currency. If we have the real resources to do it, then you can choose to create the money to do it."

But here is what I believe is the only answer that should be given when asked the sinister and insidious "How are you going to pay for it?" question:
15/ “We will pay for it by getting you out of office and replacing you with someone who will

never

ask

that

question

again.

They will do whatever it takes to get the job DONE.
16/ And until that day, 100% of our energy and time will be spent making your life a living hell, until you either give it to us, or get out of office."
17/ We don’t need to fight the powerful,

We need to stop fighting *ourselves*.

We don’t need to take money from the powerful.
We don’t need to take power from the powerful.

We need to empower *ourselves*.
18/ There is nothing wrong with disagreeing on policy. That is a good thing.

There is a big problem, however, disagreeing on the reality of how our economy actually functions.
19/ Learning #MMT will not stop the corrupt from doing bad things.

Learning MMT will stop the corrupt

from stopping *us*

from doing good things.
