Cisco "discover" that two mode systems (i.e bimodal) don't work, welcome to 2004. Cisco, putting the "duh" into "executive" ... I can't stop laughing ->
Cisco has been home to many of my favourite characters including John "chickening out and buggering off" Chambers, man most likely to speed to a cliff edge, bail out and claim "Look at my success, we're really motoring now!"
If I remember right, when Chambers left then their PR agency went overboard emphasising "what a great legacy he left" ... the rule of thumb is "When execs have to TELL you about the great legacy they're leaving, it's a tower of crap about to collapse"

Me : Whoa. You are mixing concepts really badly here. First there are multiple issues at play – inertia, bias and diversity. Let us take each one in turn ...
Inertia comes from pre-existing capital to a way of doing something. If an environment evolves then this capital can become a hurdle to change e.g. the sunk cost fallacy. There are about sixteen different forms of inertia that I’m aware of and tactics to deal with each.
Bias has all sorts of cultural, heritage and other origins. There are many forms and they interfere with our decision process. For example, outcome bias or authority bias and a belief that someone more senior is right. Education can combat this i.e. critical thinking.

Looking forward to this Deep Dive with @snowded in Australia - thedeepdive.com.au - it's only a couple of weeks away now. Cynefin and mapping, it should be fun.
X : Are you coming over to Australia again this year?
Me : Nope. I've no other plans to be there. It's just one conference, flying in from SFO, speaking and then back to the UK.
X : What are you covering?
Me : It's a deep dive, the conversation / discussion could go anywhere. Mapping obviously but we might wander into doctrine, organisational structure or even other forms of capital (practices, data, knowledge) or nation state competition.

Me : No, I did dabble for a bit, mostly modding but I have a separate interest here.
X : And that is?
Me : The culture, the structure that has formed ... it's fascinating.
... I was somewhat negative to begin with but I have become truly impressed. I don't play the game but I do lurk around NexusMods and the community, watching how it continues to develop. There are lessons for coding in general. Especially with the whole creation club mess.
But the most fascinating part is how swathes of often unconnected individuals and teams come together and create common components extending not only individual mods but the entire system way beyond what even Bethesda must have imagined.

Two of Victoria’s power stations are running at low capacity in 40 degree heatwave. I want to make some suggestions now in case of a blackout:

* Charge phones now.
* Charge battery packs
* Put an esky in the kitchen and make some ice so you can stop food going off
* Cool your home as much as possible now: adds shade, make your home as air-tight around doors and windows as possible & hang wet washing in front of fans.
* Create a contingency plan for if power is off for extended hours: what’s your plan to stay cool without electricity?
* Extreme heat kills: check in on elderly neighbours
* Check with family members when their last drink of water occurred - ensure children are staying out of heat, drinking water regularly and wearing light clothes

Reality is coming home to roost for China 🇨🇳 as well as the entire European Union 🇪🇺. Riding into work today I was listening to Bloomberg Radio and
2) couldn’t stop 🛑 laughing 😂 as they were saying that China 🇨🇳 has seen their lowest retail sales since 2003 and France 🇫🇷 and the rest of the European Union 🇪🇺 will most likely be in a recession starting in 2019. They went on to say that the markets are realizing that global
3) growth is shrinking.

The best part was the fact that they had to admit that the USA 🇺🇸 is still very strong compared to everywhere else.

Home Office's EU Settlement Scheme trial report states boldly that 100% of applicants got positive decisions.

Everything that has a 100% success rate raises my suspicious, so I read the report carefully - and I have some big issues with it:

So, the 100% success rate claim: you reckon this may have anything to do with the fact that all applicants were supported on-site by UKVI staff (something you won't have in the real system), so effectively they didn't even have a chance of making a serious mistake?

Also, 100% figure was calculated on the basis of applications that were fully considered - but even now, 124 cases are *still being considered*, many weeks after they concluded the test.

That's 12% of all cases. So it's not really 100% of successful applications, is it?

Many of my followers know that I believe in God. Every Saturday I write a thread about God and talk about what it’s like to walk with him every day. For some time now I have read tweets that seem to literally worship Trump. I find that quite bothersome.
No one but God should be worshipped. Jesus said (MT 4:10) "You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve." I think we should take him at his word. We are called to be like him. 1 Jn 2:6 “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”
How did Jesus live his life? He sought God’s advice on everything. When he was facing the greatest challenge of his life in the garden, he called on God. He didn’t want to go through what he knew was coming, but he said, “Not my will but yours be done.” Lk 22:42
