This is alarming. In all the ongoing chaos, might we suddenly find #Article50 mysteriously revoked at the last minute? Why would the UKIPGraph publish an op-ed "We're heading for the great Brexit trap - so why not stay in and wreck the EU instead?" telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2019/0…
Check out the last 3 paragraphs 😱 There was another with a similar suggestion, again in the Daily Telegraph recently, which I will try to hunt out and post later. Also BoJo said " ... we may as well stay in" in a speech in New Delhi, in the last few days.
And Farage has announced he will run as an MEP as (his) new Brexit Party candidate "if #Article50 is delayed". Maybe the inexplicable #GammonballRun is just his excuse for a series of Trump-style rallies, to his base?
Guy Verhofstadt has expressed concerns that the far-right will gain many more seats in the forthcoming EU Parliamentary Elections 23rd-26th May, possibly with the aid of "foreign meddling". I estimate that around 23% of the 751 MEP's could legitimately be described as far-right.
However, 43 of our 73 British MEP's recently opposed EU sanctions on Victor Orban's far-right government's human rights abuses, etc. That suggests that 58% of British MEP's have far-right sympathies. Not much of a stretch, quite frankly, if you look at our Government!
Esther McVey is openly appearing in Leave Campaign videos with Farage now! Maybe Stephen Bannon and all the far-right aspiring parties in Europe have got together and whispered an idea in the ears of the ERG? "We can't bring down the EU, so let's take it over instead"?
Ergo - cancel Brexit. #Simples maybe? If enough chaos can be engineered between now and 29th March, introduce martial law (Williamson today), declare a national emergency, tell the bewildered public we are staying in the EU after all, "until our national crisis can be resolved".
Remainers will breath a sigh of relief (which shuts up the majority), rabid Leavers will be carefully reassured by the likes of Farage and Rees-Mogg that we CAN invoke #Article50 again very soon (we can, in fact). Theresa May will step down and BoJo, Mogg, etc will replace her.
As evidenced, the Executive already has extraordinary powers, so the ERG can do what they bloody well like, it seems, once they seize control. The two main parties are splintering, so who will be left to oppose them, apart from "we the people"?
I know much of this is just my late evening conjecture ... but I will be not at all surprised if somehow (even just through an A50 extension), the UK still participates in the EU Parliamentary elections in May. I hope I'm wrong. We must be careful what we wish for. END
