Ridiculous theatrical nonsense. No way on earth should MPs pass some revised deal with 12 hours' notice. I don't believe May on the backstop. What we know of her deal's appalling even without the backstop. And what we don't know of it will be even worse. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/…

Does May's team & the EU believe that after her relentless lying & lying & lying about everything about the EU negotiations for more than 2 years, we're all going to suddenly trust her now & pass a revised deal with a few hours' notice? They think MPs really *that* weak & stupid?
I don't. Believe. A word of it. Anyone who does is foolish beyond remedy.

I wasn't a long-term get-outer. I only came reluctantly to the view we must leave somewhere btwn 2011 & 2016. I don't care that much whether we leave now or leave later. I do care, absolutely, that the result of a democratic process run by rules all agreed in advance be respected
I cannot remain a member of a party that sets up a democratic process, runs it by rules it chose, loses, gets re-elected promising to honour the result, & then despite all that overturns that result. That violates the central covenant of democratic constitutional politics.
There are some splendid MPs in the Conservative Party. But in December 200 Conservative MPs voted to keep May as PM specifically in order to prevent Conservative members choosing a PM that wld honour the 2017 manifesto & 2016 euref by taking us out of the EU on time with no deal.

So, like a lot of you, I guess, I'm in search of a political party. I have in mind a party with at least a passing regard for playing by democratic rules, so obviously that rules out the Conservatives. I'm neither a Communist nor an anti-semite, so of course Labour's out.
But what do I believe in? I guess my two startpoints wld be 1) that ordered liberty is the proper minimal goal of any political system (tho it can have other richer ones as well); & 2) both rulers & governed are sinful, so both need their conduct constrained.
By "ordered liberty" I refer to the concept that order does not come by degrees - there is simply order or not. Liberty & order are not "traded off". Instead, we must have order, but we seek the maximum liberty consistent with having & maintaining that order.

So the govt motion is effectively "This House votes that if May's deal isn't passed by March 20th, Brexit is cancelled indefinitely."
So that, my Conservative activist friends, was what you canvassed houses, phoned around, stuffed envelopes & stood on the street greeting people for: so the govt could cancel Brexit if it cldn't get a deal through that gave away NI to the EU. Well done. I'm sure you're v proud.
When you were a student, O Conservative friends, & went to those meetings & said you demanded the UK's position in the EU be reformed, what you *really* meant was "Vote Conservative, so we can cancel the largest democratic vote for anything, ever."

Extend Art.50 (so No Deal remains live);
Call a 2nd referendum (she doubts it’ll win)*

* Though she doesn't completely rule out the possibility of Parliament bringing this forward.

Take lessons from her mistakes in these negotiations when it comes to negotiating the future relationship.
She’ll be more inclusive: ‘engaging’ with elected reps from NI (and [randomly] English regions), & businesses & other normal people.

Even if you personally believe a compromise that funds the wall in exchange for DACA is acceptable, making such a deal with Trump is indefensibly foolish.

He MADE this deal before. And then he went back on it.

There can be no compromise without credibility.
Any law that enshrines DACA protections is going to have exceptions. And whatever exceptions are left in, Trump's DHS will claim that everybody they catch falls under it. Just like they've been doing all along.
The written exceptions will ultimately be used as propaganda tools for the Trump regime's xenophobic purges. If protections are only rescinded for the worst violent criminals? Then everyone who would otherwise be protected becomes a violent criminal.
